Interesting use of pastiche, with the 'sorry day' speech and the chorus of "From Little Things, Big Things Grow" -- it was Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam who originally sang that song, wasn't it?

Hmm... I think it's an interesting video as well because for me the use of that chorus framed the song's topic in a way I hadn't look at before. I never really formulated an opinion about Sorry Day but I felt like it could as easily be a sincere apology and something Kevin Rudd felt strongly about as well as something cynical; somebody who lived at my college wrote about it in the college newsletter from that perspetive, talking about how it was a performance.
But with the phrase 'from little things, big things grow' in mind, it makes me think, maybe it is a first step. A good first step.

That's just my 2 cents anyway. :-P

Hey Chris :-P

It's actually a Paul Kelly/Kev Carmody song - they're pretty prominent musicians in Oz! It was originally about the Wave Hill walk off up in the Northern Territory :-)

I think it's justified that people would view it as cynical but I think it was long overdue. It was one of those issues a majority of Aboriginal people were calling for and it had been in the making for ten years. The weird thing is, John Howard increased the apology's importance. If it wasn't for his continual refusal, it wouldn't have meant so much. I think Howard was one of the most racist PMs this country has had and the apology was like a collective sigh of relief that swept through the nation on Feb 13th.
